photography is nothing short of a miracle; a window into humanity, and a time machine in our pocket

After long hours running about and gazing in wonder, a close comes to the intimate island of Oahu. The warm glow of our sun’s departure fills the sky as she slowly sets below an endless sea. A spectacle that attracts people from around the world to witness.

Tourists and locals alike bathe in the warm ocean water, swaying back and forth, feet and toes touching immersed sand, until I capture their silhouetted existence in time.

I was waiting for a sailboat in the distance, leaving Honolulu Harbor for a trip around Diamond Head, to arrive at the center of the frame.

Impatience grew like the rising tide as the vessel moved slowly across the frame. A gentle reminder to be patient softened the blow, and I held the phone steady again.

Time passed with ease again and the time to stop time presented itself. I tapped the lowered section of the black sheet of glass that is my phone.

Time sped back up to everyday life within a second. The people on the shore and in the water continued to move again. The sailboat out in the open ocean continued to move again. The sun on the endless horizon continued to move again. And I, enamored by all this movement, a great Egyptian sphynx, continued to sit still.

The gallery below includes more than a simple sunset, but rather some of my favorite memories of Oahu, an island that hosts some pretty incredible experiences and remains a home while lying awake some nights, in some foreign land, staring up at the ceiling.
