The light blends with a mix of cotton candy colors as I stare at the endless horizon, transfixed by such common beauty.
These photos, taken on an iPhone 13 in San Diego, capture an incredibly familiar phenomenon, the sun’s departure from one’s eye and arrival to another.
Beholding this beauty and marveling at its glow is a human thing. In the age of AI and ever-expanding technology, a sunset and sunrise will always be human.
It is the transportation of the mind from thinking to being.
A sunset reminds us to be present in its captivating blend of colors and hues as if it was made that way for that reason exactly.
The sun setting whispers, “Hey, settle down now, pay attention, be here and now.”
The sun setting is an exhale.
Akin to the warmth and comfort of waking up in bed on a cold day, our presence in that state cultivates peace of mind.
The sunrise, too, is a powerful yet different reminder of mindfulness. The light fills the sky, telling us to begin the day with vigor and enthusiasm!
The sun rising speaks, “Good day, rise and greet everything and everyone with presence and joy.”
The sun rising is an inhale.
I love the simple yet effective motto from MUD/WTR that is included as a sticker in each new purchase, it says:
Support your local sunrise.
I have this sticker at eye level right near the bed so it’s the first thing I see every morning, every sunrise.
So from sunrise to sunset, from dusk till dawn, from inhale to exhale, have a beautiful, mindful, light-bending day!
